Understand card-price data freshness
Read source labels, observation dates, currencies, verified sales, and coverage gaps before using a market data point.
Reviewed 2026-08-01Identify what the number represents
A listed price, provider snapshot, rolling estimate, and completed comparable sale answer different questions. Start with the source and record type before comparing amounts.
- Look for the named source
- Check whether the record is a sale or estimate
- Keep marketplace asking prices separate from completed transactions
Check time and currency
An observation date tells you when a record was captured, not whether the same amount remains available today. Compare only compatible currencies unless you document an external conversion.
- Read the newest observation time
- Keep USD and EUR histories distinct
- Treat stale or missing observations as a limitation
Use gaps honestly
Missing months, grades, providers, or sets should remain missing. Filling them by assumption can create a misleading trend.
- Do not interpolate unverified sales
- Confirm important decisions independently
- Treat research tools as context, not an appraisal
